K-9, K-9A, K-9AB CUTAWL REPLACEMENT BELT
This is my standard replacement drive belt for the K-9 Cutawl machines I recondition. This belt will provide you with just the same performance as the terribly overpriced yellow drive belts, or the synthetic clear "jelly" ones that burn out quickly. This belt will work well on all K-9 Cutawls. You should expect the belt to fit quite tightly, holding the tension idler arm nearly straight until the belt wears in a bit.
Look for some of the additional Cutawl products I list under my 1staward store from time to time. I list reconditioned Cutawl units as I get time to work on them.  If you have some Cutawl blades lying around that you have no need for please drop me a note. Barter is good currency in this time of "belt tightening". Thanks for taking a few minutes to view my listing. Please feel free to buy also.
Please note: If you have any of the different K-9 Cutawl units, there are a number of differences in motor pulleys, idlers, as well as in wheel wear on the motor pulley cork. This belt will work with ONLY the small one inch pully wheel. The motor pulley is designed with the middle filled with cork. It is designed for an old canvas belt and may have much wear from years of use in abrasive products. To install a belt, I first try out the belt fit starting with the small motor pulley, placing the belt on it, and then guiding the belt up and rolling the belt onto the upper drive pulley. It may be very tight but will stretch with a bit of use. There is a third pulley (idler, on a spring) which tensions the belt. The idler must NOT ride on the motor shaft. If you can't roll the belt on this way, I do a bit of pulley trimming. Using a flat file tip, I start up the motor and cut the pulley (cork center only) down just a bit (1/8 inch max) which is sufficient to fit the belt. The cork trim work must be very square so the belt stays centered. Then install the belt, making sure the upper pulley shield is not touching the belt anywhere. (The pulley shield will get red hot if touching the belt.) You can bend the shield as needed, paying special attention to the side where the idler pulley is located. The cutout on the shield is shorter on that side. I just bend it back with pliers to clear the belt path if necessary. If the shield is touching the belt on the top, I take a piece of 2x4 and a light hammer, lay the saw on it's face, and give the shield a light tap to clear the belt path. Your K-9 may have come with two motor pulleys, one on the motor, and one on the left side of the frame as you look at the back side. Use the smaller pulley (1") for this fix. The larger pulley (1.5") places more stress on your motor. It can serve as a spare motor pulley but will need more trimming, as above. HAPPY CUTTING!
